The funnel must be removed from the burette before taking the initial reading to prevent drops of the titrant from the funnel from falling into the burette and affecting the volume of the reading.
Also, any liquid can still be inside the funnel to the funnel and can drip into the burette, causing a higher than actual reading, and cause error.

It is important to rinse the burrette with distilled water as this is done to remove any contaminants or residues from previous experiments that was carried out or anything that might interfere with the accuracy of the titration.
Distilled water is used because it is free of ions and other impurities. Also,
arinsing with distilled water, the burette should also be rinsed with a small amount of the titrant solution itself. This rinse enables that any residual water is removed and that the burette is completely fille
